You'd have to fear for Sheffield United

In the spirit of getting things suitably heated prior to the encounter with our adversaries from the Tevezgate affair, we at VERYWESTHAM have decided to cut loose on our thoughts for the game. So far this season we have witnessed that West Ham are a sold unit who are more attack-minded than before and quite capable of dominating possession as poor Crystal Palace found out at the weekend.

In contrast, Sheffield United are mid table in League one after 4 games and have sunk and sunk despite receiving compensation money in excess of £20 million. With headlines like 'Blades aiming to NAIL Hammers' you've simply got to laugh, as the gulf between the Premiership and League one is truly vast.

Normally, the Capital One Cup is a dull affair in which most Premiership teams try out youngsters and typically field a reserve side. Normally, Sam Allardyce ignores the fans and does whatever he thinks will benefit his side's push for Premiership success.

However, events of the past few months have indicated that even Big Sam can be forced to bow to fan pressure and it seems likely that he will field a strong side against Sheffield United in recognition that many fans would like to see them put to the sword as revenge for their endless whinging about their relegation and West Ham's survival.

For once, both our hearts and our heads suggest that the Hammers will go for it. Let's hope the healthy competition for places within the squad encourages the players to really push for a big result.

Ooooogh, the excitement is building!

  1. I would imagine that Aston Villa and Fulham underestimated the gap between the Premier League and League One last season before Sheffield United dumped them both out of the FA Cup?. And then the same Forest side who romped home 5-0 against West Ham and humiliated them also came undone against Sheffield United losing 3-1 as did Charlton of the championship. It is comments like this that make the minnows want to beat the over confident, cocky, big headed, taking things for granted sorts of teams......

As for your comments about finances and stuff this is why all of the hype surrounds the match in the first place. Very sour grapes yet none of you look at it logically! You broke the rules of the game simple and as a result got punished!.....How can you feel hard done by? Don't cheat and you don't pay the price! simple.

    2. Zzzzz... weve got a proper squad with real CBs this time.
Anything less than a two goal spread would be a surprising disappointment.

  2. Wingeing blades, deserved to be relegated that season they were crap, lost most of the last 10 games apart from beating W Ham and still ended below us ! Rob Green and James Collins were just as influential towards the end of the season as Carlos, yet nothing is mentioned about them. We beat the Gooners at the Emirates' Greenie played a blinder and Carlos didn't score.

I can just imagine it now if West Ham win, they will all be rushing to the pub to celebrate with a pint and a jug of jellied eels, all sing their Chas n Dave fav songs, "oh knees up mother brown", oh and lets not forget still harping on about how much money they had to pay the Blades after the "Cheat gate" saga.

  4. Your right Guv, we did cheat and we will never forget as it kept us up, its the only way this day and age, after all we don't have the likes of Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters and Bobby Moore to keep us on the straight and narrow

  5. Oh were digging up Bobby Moore again (well not literally), wasn't it him who brought shame to England when caught nicking jewellery before a world cup, it seems like its breed into you southerners, once a cheat always a cheat UTB

  6. bring it on, I for 1 love a party with an atmosphere, and the facts are whatever the reason quite simple. We have the chance to rub a load of whinging northerners noses in it and give them the joy of a 4 hour miserable journey home on a wet tuesday night. They in their minds already believe there is no justice so lets make it worse for them,

    1. You're right mate, there is absolutely no justice...if there was we would have beaten you fair and square in normal time, takes the gloss off having to rely penalties.
Still, gives you the chance to concentrate on relegation eh.
See you soon in the championship
      Now trot on

  9. Only Cockney's could brag about cheating, its a shame how far your cesspit of a club has fallen in terms clinging on to Premier league football. even getting in Pornographers to continue to keep you afloat. But as long as your in the Premier league what does cheating or porn dealers owning your club matter? Self respect is secondary to having big clubs coming to your ground, that's what its all worth it for. So long as you spend every season avoiding relegation that's the main thing.

    1. The issue i have with is with warnock, with sufc dropping points and sliding into the dog fight,he was blaming liverpool for resting players against fulham-coz fulham won,did the same with fergie when we won at OT despite the fact utd had a cup final on the following saturday.he expected other managers to keep sufc up.he is the reason you got relagated, should have spent more time keeping the team in form, and less time complaining about other clubs starting line up-its a squad game.
