Hammers Sign Ghidorah - but is three a crowd?

There can be no doubting that West Ham fans are hungry for new signings to boost a squad that stuttered through much of last season. The arrival of Pablo Zabaletta was a decent start as the right back berth has been an open wound for much of the campaign, but the arrival of Joe Hart on a one year contract seems to make little or no sense at all!

At present, West Ham have two excellent keepers who both endured dodgy spells last term trying to shore up a defence that was creaking and lost its confidence. Both paid the price with demotions to the bench but in all honesty most Hammers fans would admit that, apart from brief dodgy spells last year, both Adrian and Darren Randolph have been largely excellent during their West Ham careers. "Usually excellent but prone to the odd gaff" - sounds like a description that would readily fit Joe Hart - so now we have three similarly talented/error-prone keepers???

Even worse, keepers thrive on confidence and stability - hardly something that will be boosted by the arrival of an interloper on loan for just a year. Destabilising or what? It's hard to fathom what the management are thinking! If this arrival forces out either Adrian or Randolph (which seems inevitable) what will we have gained?

In the fifth Godzilla movie, Ghidorah was a three headed reptilian monster from Mars who waged war on Earth until Godzilla and Rodan got fed up and sent him back into outer space! Ghidorah's weakness was having too many heads to choose from - something Slaven Bilic might want to consider as we prepare for next season where we will need a more assured defence than last year!

  1. Sorry, but Hart is a major upgrade on both - and especially Randolph, who was awful when given his chance.

  2. After Slav spent time last season playing Antonio at right back, forward, left etc. Maybe he's thnking Adrian can play a bit of striker for us!?! (Didn't he score in Nobes testimonial?)

  3. This article is nonsense. Adrian is a good keeper Randolph is very average and Hart is by far the best keeper out the three. This is a major upgrade

    1. Disagree - if anything Hart is more error prone than the other two and Torino aren't exactly knocking down doors to hold on to him.

  4. Hart offers a small upgrade on Adrian. The problem is that West Ham would gain significantly more by upgrading any striker, winger or attacking midfielder bar Lanzini and Antonio on the club's list.

  5. Despite all the media negativity Joe Hart has been tremendous for City winning 4 Golden gloves and Irons fans only have to think back to that save he made from a Payet free kick at your place.
If Lionel Messi rates him you should take notice Messi said: “He was phenomenal, he stopped everything. We have to congratulate him on a great game because he's a fantastic goalkeeper." http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/9766097/lionel-messi-hails-phenomenal-joe-hart-after-manchester-citys-champions-league-exit-to-barcelona

  6. It's a world cup year, Hart will want to prove himself to Gareth Southgate and be on form next season to be on the plane. Got to be better than Forster/ Butland
if he's England's number 1 and they're excellent keepers who you wouldn't say were "prone to the odd gaff".

He isn't an "an interloper on loan" either, it's basically a 12 month trial. If he impresses, then he will be given a contract (Lanzini, Zaza, Calleri) which is how DS does the risky buys.

    1. Fair point but at over 100K a week? Aren't keepers usually relatively inexpensive?

    2. Not in the modern game. City have just paid 45million for theirs, and I'm pretty sure the likes of Butland and Forster won't be much behind Hart in terms of wages once their current contracts are up!

  7. Change of hart at last minute
