In bad news for
Senegal Cheik Kouyate's side were dumped out of
the AFCON last night losing after ET 5-4 on penalties to a determined Cameroon
side.
It has been no
surprise to Hammers fans that Kouyate has had an excellent tournament - serving
as captain for his country in three of their four games and winning MOTM awards
for his outstanding performances.
Although there will be
some sympathy for Senegal, Manager Aliou Cisse's decision to keep Kouyate on
the pitch despite worrying head and wrist injuries will undoubtedly irritate
the Hammers medical team. The club have previously been critical of how
the Senegalese managed an injury to Diafra Sakho which many feel is at the
heart of his longstanding injury woes.
Kouyate won't make
Wednesday's Premiership revenge clash with Man City but should make the
following game.
In the interim, the
Hammers will want to get him back 'home' asap to assess the extent of his
injuries.
There are a mere two days remaining on the massive VERYWESTHAM fans poll regarding the future of bad boy Diafra Sakho at West Ham. Diafra marooned himself in no mans land with a series of petulant actions during the Summer before missing the departure bus to West Brom due to a failed medical. Now the question is what to do with £15 million's worth of proven Premiership striking talent?

As Simone Zaza edges ever closer to a West Ham arrival and Ashley Fletcher looks like he may well be ready to contribute to West Ham's offensive efforts, many would say that Sakho should be left to stew. However, a whopping 71% of fans who have voted so far feel that SuperSlav should put a fatherly arm around the Senegalese hitman and offer him a fresh start.
With Enner Valencia endlessly misfiring, Jonathan Calleri finding it difficult to get into goal scoring stride, and Big Andy back in sickbay, it's no surprise that many think that we should give Saks the pay rise that appears to be at the centre of the current dispute and let him do his talking on the pitch. After last night's limp display we really could do with his abrasive energy up front.
Waddaya think peeps? Why not vote in our poll?
You'd have to feel sorry for poor Bristol City who, after a gallant effort today, found themselves undone by a piece of brilliance from Andy Carroll that set up goalscoring machine Diafra Sakho to nod in the decisive solitary goal of a lively affair.
Meanwhile, Senegal are slowly edging their way to the last eight of the African Cup of Nations after a win against Ghana and a draw against South Africa from their first two matches leaves them needing only a draw from their final group match against to reach the last eight. Cheikhou Kouyae has been busy starting their first match and joining as a late substitute in the second.
As for the Hammers, is this the year we rediscover our relationship with the cup?
